weedingAfter a busy day at the orphanage, we can all agree that God has blessed us with another beautiful day of Ministry. Our day began with encouragement as we got off the bus and we were all greeted with lots of hugs from the children. The team spent the morning doing jobs around the orphanage property. Many of us spent time weeding the bean fields, while others leveled ground in front of the house. It was great to be able to serve God, and serve the fully committed staff.

The rest of the day with the children was wonderful. We were able to spend quality time with them and we were able to see their hearts and how God is working in their lives. We were all so blessed to have the kids perform a dance for us and we also performed dramas for them. As the night came to a close, each team member was able to meet with a child and give them gifts while getting to talk and play more.

God continued to present us with opportunities as we were prayed over by the children of the orphanage and we were also able to pray with a young boy who was unable to walk since birth. It was a truly powerful prayer time and God began a great work in that sweet boy tonight, one that we believe will continue for years to come.

Tonight at our team meeting we discussed the importance of tending to the harvest. We saw a clear picture of that today as we spent the time weeding the plants that would eventually benefit the orphanage. We’re all so thankful God is blessing us with a chance to tend to His children.

Thanks so much to everyone for all your prayers and for the blog comments. We’ve really been enjoying being able to read those every night, the encouragement and the laughs are great and so appreciated!

Good Morning….Amanda. Yesterday sounded so wonderful. I know how eager you were to share your love with the children. I can’t wait to hear about the little girl you had a chance to bless. We are all doing well. We miss you and the house is just not the same without you here. I want to give a special “thank you” to Pastor Jeff, Helena and all of the leaders. You are all AMAZING!!! Daisy is in your room snooping around right now wondering where you are:)

Hey Dave, Devin, Adam, Nick, Chelsea… (am I forgetting anyone?)

Sounds like you guys are having a great time, I’m glad to hear that. I can’t wait to hear about it when you get home. Adam – I don’t hate you… you brought the charger, so it’s good :) But don’t give me that glare anymore.. it’s weird. Devin – Keep an eye on yours and my “other half” while you’re down there.. please. For my sake. Chelsea – You’re not World War 2… Ignore the boys… Nick – Be nice to Dave, Devin, Adam, and Chelsea… especially Dave. Not that you are ever mean, but I’m just saying. Dave – I miss you lots and can’t wait to hear about Marvin when you get back. Abby misses you, too. Te amo. Solamente hay algunos dias mas hasta que puedo verte. Yay! Have a great time, everyone…you’ll all be in my prayers.

Wow! I would have loved being there and seeing that – working in the fields and pulling weeds! Yabba Dabba Do! It’s interesting how GOD grows us – He teaches us so much thru the mundane things of life and especially thru those things that we normally consider “senseless” or of no value, or beneath us. You will long remember these times in Nicaragua – God will recall them back to your rememberance, even teaching you something subconsciously. Nothing goes without reason or value. We serve an awesome God and to think that HE still chooses to use US to accomplish His purpose & plan! I’m so excited to hear of all that you are doing for our King Jesus! Keep on keeping on! You’re doing great! We are so proud of you all and may the LORD continue to renew you, refill you and keep you in Jesus’ Name! Love yah Laura! :) Love & Blessings Mom & Dad Hummel.

  6. Dear Maid of Honor, Emily misses you, Danae misses you, Dad and Mom misses you, Deputy Bernard P. Fife misses you and the dust/hair bunnies miss you. We hope you got to spend time with Maritza yesterday. I can’t wait to see pictures of her. How did she like the gifts? I shot a 52 last night and feel I’m getting things back the way they used to be. Past the pin on hole 6 (par 5) in two! Not that I’m bragging or anything, ha, ha. Settled for a 6 though. Ugh.

    Love and prayers, Mom

Bonnie- When I saw your name at the top of this I said, “Bean!” And I was so excited when I read that you tended to a bean field. La la la. I really enjoyed reading your update. It sounds like you are having an incredible time at the orphanage. I pray the one-on-one moments that you all spend with the kids will really be encounters in which the Holy Spirit can move, even in their young little hearts. Keep up the good work and stay hydrated! Nobody likes a dried bean…

    Love you Bonnie and Annie.

Oh, by the way, this is Kara, not Dad, in case you were confused by the name. ;)

P.S.- I better watch my back, with your writing skills you could probably take my job!

    our dear son,

sorry we didn’t leave a comment on that last blog.
your mother and I got into an intense game of pea knuckle.
and then stayed up even later playing spoons with liz and eric.
It got kind of violent. But eric should recover soon.
I told him to watch the elbows. I guess he didn’t take me seriously.
But nothing some ice and t.l.c from liz couldn’t fix.

Hey Ian, I think it’s so great that you’re having such a great time down there and that God is doing so much through you and the rest of the team. I read about the orphanage and thought it was so cool that you guys helped out with pulling weeds and leveling ground. It really sounds like you have a tight schedule and are busy. You’re probably going to be really tired when you come home on Friday. I have something for you that you’ll get when you come back. I’m so happy that God is working through you so much. Hi Bethany,
It’s Mom again. I read the blog early this morning and have been thinking about you all day. Remember last summer when your job of watering flowers and pulling weeds seemed so mundane? Here God was just preparing and training you for something bigger — pulling weeds for Him in a bean field in Nicaragua. We continue to pray for you and the team that the Holy Spirit will fill you all and work through you to accomplish mighty things in Jesus name. Don’t forget to journal so we can read all about it when you come home. Much love, Mom (and Dad and Brynlee, too)

That’s nothing! When I was your age, I had to plant, weed and pick rows and rows of strawberries, beans, peas, onions, corn and potatoes, then go back and start over again the next day where I left off. I had to milk the goats, slop the pigs, muck the horse stalls, feed the ducks, chop off the chicken heads and diaper the monkey. Then when I was done with that, I had to walk up hill both ways 5 miles in the snow to go to school. And yes. I was doing all of this in the snow. Times were hard in Blair county. Good thing I met your dad so that he could take me away from all that.
Seriously, though, Shmoopie. How did they get you to weed the beans?
We are still missing you. And the boys. Trevor just doesn’t come to the house at all when you’re not there. I think he’s afraid of us.
We love you guys! Still in our prayers! I go to your room everyday and pray over it for you and the team. And then I break down and cry into your Hannah Montana pillow.
    Love you lots!

  28. Oh my goodness. 27 comments?! Thats redic.
Anyways. Amanda, my phone is silent. It has vibrated like once. I miss you. :(
Abigail: I really hope the humidity has not affected your awesome hair.
Burkey: mrs. burkey called me and asked me to tell everyone that the surgery went well. and that she is recovering very nicely.
She certainly seemed fine while we were playing spoons.
Her and your dad were getting into it.
Mr. Burkey managed to give me a shiner.
    But I’ll be alright.
I wonder if you will read all this. Because there are 27 comments. And that would take alllooottt of time to read all that.

Hi Fer fee lips! Boy do we miss your sweet face! It was great to see it along with the picture of your new “friend” on your shoulder. I’m worried — were you hot or sunburned?? I hope you are using your sunscreen we packed! Sorry, its just a mom thing! Can’t wait to hear about your visit to the orphanage — I know you LOVED pulling those weeds! Every time I sit at the piano and see your worship choruses laying there I pray — pray that God is using you in a mighty way for his glory! What a wonderful opportunity you’ve been given to share your growing faith in Jesus. Mr. Underkoffler called this week and sends his prayers and well wishes! He asked me to send the “praying mantis” picture to him via snail mail. he didn’t realize you left already. hee hee! Kris — hurry home so I don’t have to unload this dishwasher another day! Tater tot casserole will be waiting! Thanks Helena for all the work you have done to prepare our teens for His service; we miss your phone messages!

Kris: Great! Mom just told me we can talk but you can’t respond. Let me see…okay, along those lines…clean your roon, take the dog out, set the table, give your sister a hug, and get out of bed before noon. Any objections? No? Okay, now that that’s out of the way…
Mom and I are praying for you. Remember when Kaitlyn was anxious for you to go? Now she misses you. McGruff lays outside your bedroom door. Don’t worry…we are walking him, so there won’t be a mess outside your door when you get home. Part of me hopes that you were one of the lucky ones to get steak and ride first class, but part of me (the Darth part) hopes you got to experience a little part of Houston, since it’s been 23 years since we lived there and you’d be able to say you were there too. (I know it was only HIA but humor me, okay?) Since Kaitlyn misses you, is it okay that we let her use your Baby Bop you sleep with just until you get back? She’d really appreciate it.
Remember what I said before you left…DO THE RIGHT THING. Take care…

Remember that every little thoughtful thing you do counts for eternity!! Devin – I hope that David liked everything you picked out for him. I can only guess that you were a ground leveler and not a weeder, knowing how much you hate to weed! We miss you and your half brothers (Dave, Adam & Nick)! Please take lots of pictures! Oh by the way – Verizon wireless called, they noticed the drastic drop in texting and were wondering if your phone was broken. We assured them the activity will increase on Saturday. Calah,
Can’t wait for you to share all the great things that God is doing in your life and the rest of the team. I know the kids are just thrilled that you are all there. I miss your smiling face!!!!!!!!!!Keep loving on those kids and sharing the love of Jesus with them. Praying for you and the team. May God use each one of you in a unique way. Remember with God all things are possible. I am so proud of all of you for being obedient and doing the work of the Lord. Thats awesome!!!!!!!!!! What an opportunity. Keep your heads up and keep pressing into God. I love you Calah, Mom

  36. Such a cool metaphor for you guys to see the practical meet the spiritual with the weeding and cultivating for the harvest for the kids in the physical… and then you got to do it in the spiritual as well! Just amazing! That really stirs my faith!

Keep it up team! The best is yet to come! I pray that god would anoint your hands for the work that you will be completing tomorrow! It is a new day jammed packed with awesome things that you will remember for a life time!

    Benjamin

  37. Chris says:

I guess you have all taken literally the scripture that says, “Come with me into the fields.” (John 4:35) Actually, I think it’s a song that says that, but it’s based on the verse.

Anyway, it is amazing to think that you all are really there and you’re actually doing the Great Commission. I read about a young man who, after he accepted the Lord, asked his pastor, “Well, when are we going to start doin’ the stuff?”

The pastor was puzzled and asked the young man, “What stuff?”

“Well, you know,” the youth replied. “Feeding the hungry, praying for people to be healed and delivered, seeing miracles in people’s lives–all of the things that Jesus talked about in the Bible.”

God bless you all for stepping out in faith–you’re doin’ the stuff!

    Love,
    Chris Danielewicz
