Hola from the whitest kids on this trip!! Today was quite an adventure. We started the day off by zip lining through the canopy of the Nicaraguan jungle!! Half of our team is in the hospital with broken necks…HA, NOT! For the insane ones on this trip, they decided to go upside-down or Superman style! Scarrrrryy!! The Native men that were working the zip-lines were helping us attach to the line. These were the instructions: “ Jump on one, two, SIX!” It was so funny because I’m pretty sure they didn’t know that 3 is way before 6. Many of us were terrified of going on the zip-lines, but ended up having a blast!
Afterwards, we went to Catarini. It was SO beautiful there! I think that the landscape here is so green and beautiful! (Katie) Then we got to shop at a little market there and got some souvenirs.
Then we left for lunch. We ate at Tip-Top, which is like Nicaragua’s version of KFC…it was very scrumptious!! J We got our own private room upstairs, and a secret entrance to the kid’s playground! YEAHHSON!!
Next, we toured the Volcano Masaya, where the sulfurous air burned our lungs and eyes…but it was such a cool feeling!! (Zach) WE (Katie and Kaitlyn) personally thought it was wretched. Matt Noh thought it was righteous. Some of us wore pretty radical gas masks. They looked RIGHTEOUS (Matt).
When we returned to the campgrounds, we “chilled” until it was dinner time. As usual, the options included plantains, chicken, and rice. Yum…not really. After 10 days of it, a person gets pretty sick of it. (Zach) There were some little boys there making these awesome creations out of palm tree leaves. We gave all four of them a plate of food, and it was really moving because they kept asking us for money. After asking one of the little boys he said he needed to buy shoes for school, but the truth was that if he didn’t go home with money, he would get hit by his mom. A lot of us were crying because of this. God comforted us all though. We know he will protect these children if we continue to pray about it.
When we returned once again, Eric and Abdias filled us in on Metanoia Missions. It was real real cool!! We got to pray for them and then for the seniors on the trip that will soon be going off to college… We will miss them very much. We are all glad that we came on this trip because God definitely changed us. Can’t wait to see you all!!!
