being friends with God. often we sing the song, “i am a friend of God.” do we believe it? Jesus, somewhere in John said that he no longer calls us servants, but friends. Jesus calls us his friends. do we believe it? God is my friend. i chill with God. i hang out with him. i spend time with him. i chat to him casually and i laugh with him. sometimes i joke with him, sometimes i’m angry at him and shout at him. sometimes i don’t understand him and i spend more time on my face trying to. sometimes he doesn’t seem close, sometimes his intimacy is so good it’s totally unreal. all that, that i just described, is prayer. perhaps you think of prayer as religious, “oh, i gotta go pray now.” nothing wrong with that at all. nothing wrong with prayer meetings, devotions, praying for each other, praying before service, nothing wrong with that at all. but i challenge you to take it a step further. have a real relationship with God. truly be his friend. joke with him. talk with him. chat with him casually. if you’re friends with someone, you can talk with them about anything, both important, and non-important. it’s the same with God. he’s always listening. go deeper into God, for that is the first purpose God created you for: to be in him. you are in God. so live it. be God’s friend.
