Hello all, we are officially done with spanish speaking, A-men! Today we took a few people to a Haitian church, not the whole team, just a few people to represent the team. There was about 8 of us there, we ended doing one drama for them. It was a little bit of a different feel, at this church there was no spanish speaking, it was French. Thats right, FRENCH. As a missions team we had never been to anywhere where there was French being spoken. It was an amazing service.
Then the eight of us traveled back to the hotel where we met up with the rest of the team and headed off to the English speaking, AG church for another amazing service. The worship was OUTSTANDING, and the presence of God was soooo real! The spirit was on the move, and hearts and lives were changed. The service lasted about 2 1/2 hours. At the end the presented each Father with a gift, and offered pictures for fee of the fathers and their families if you wanted. At the end of service, we were greeted by members and the elders of the church. They were so welcoming and kind hearted.
We then left to go to a member of the churches house, for a delicious chicken, rice, and vegetables lunch. Like I said… DELICIOUS! Hung out for a little and came back to the hotel, got changed then walked to the beach. While we were there, we first listened to the song “Clear the Stage” then Pastor Jeff told us that we need to go to where the waves are breaking… and to write in the sand the struggles and temptations were facing. Then after that, we were supposed to back up and let the waves wash it away, signifying that God is removing these things from our lives, and that these things are not apart of us anymore. It was a great moment for myself as well as the rest of the team… We prayed afterwards, then Stew and Troy gave a devo about Perseverance and Passion.
Then we came back to the hotel got changed, then back to the beach for some midnight ultimate frisbee. We had 3 different color glowsticks each team had their own color, we had a light up frisbee, and in the dark all you could see were glowsticks flopping around with a light up frisbee soaring through the air! It was pretty awesome… But now were gonna rest up, we have a day full of school assemblies and MEGA SPORTS CAMP starts tomm! We definitely appreciate all your prayers. Even though you are thousands of miles away, you are affecting the work that God is doing here, so we Thank you for that! Have a great night everyone and God Bless!!
Shout out from Jason and Justin. Abuela – Everyone is doing very well. It is an awesome time of ministry. God is moving in mighty ways!
So we woke up today, pretty early, about 7:00a.m ready for a great day. We hopped on the bus and started off to a Primary School downtown. We arrived to the school, and were greeted by about 150-200 happy kids. They were so excited for us to be there, we were greeted with hugs, high fives, and fist pounds! We were able to do about 30 minutes worth of service for them. We did a children’s song, several dramas, and got to give a few testimonies to! Pastor John gave the altar call, and about 50-75 kids gave there hearts to God. It was awesome to see these kids raise there hands in front of there peers, and give there hearts to God. We were able to hang out with them for about 20 minutes afterwards, we were able to see the inside of there classrooms, do some dancing and just talk with them.
We then left the school and went to a Spanish church where we were able to have some prayer time and worship with the pastors and the elders of the church. We were then able to walk around the city and pray over the different schools, streets, and people we came in contact with. Then came lunch time, a restaurant in the city where he had some rice, thee best chicken in the world, along with some tuna salad. For real, this food has got to be thee best food we have EVER had on a missions trip! We left and headed back to the hotel, where we were given some free time.
Needless to say, we decided to go to the BEACH! There were no waves, the water tasted like salt, and we found starfish. It was the coolest thing ever. The water was so clear too! It was beautiful. We left the beach and walked back to the hotel where we had Pizza waiting for us. It was good, but Jim N Nenas is better! (Thats where Stewy works in case you didn’t know)
We left and headed back to the Spanish church for a service with the youth and the adults. We arrived early and saw 4 natives playin some basketball across the street. So needless to say Troy, Tyler, Stew, Kyle, Nick, and Lyle Jobe decided to see if we could show them some game. We got WRECKED!!! These kids took us to school! They were shooting from downtown and making shots like nothing! For real, they werent even trying half the time! We lost 2,500,000 to 8. It was a close game but we were defeated! However, we are looking forward to a rematch tomorrow.
We then did a service for the youth and adults from the spanish church and had an amazing prayer and worship time afterwards. We were able to pray for adults from the church and some of the kids that were attending! It was awesome! We had an amazing meal afterwards provided and made by the ladies from the church. We had chicken (again) along with some grapes and other types of fruits. It was SUPER! We left the church, headed back to the hotel, did our devos, and all got ready for bed, which brings me to right now! We had a terrific day, blessed and anointed by God! Lives were changed and people were affected by God moving through the members of this team, and the members of the church! We are praying that God is continuing to not only speak and move in us, but to speak through us also. Were having an amazing trip. Thank you guys so much for your prayers, they are GREATLY appreciated.
Tyler Gay wants to give a shoutout to Mommy and Poppa and bros.
Stewy says hello to Momma and Daddy Paul. And all the people left at the church on the Greece team!
Yesterday at J-Jam, we started off with a little bit of Matt Ball, J-Jam favorite! After that we went to a J-Jam Original, DODGEBALL! You can never go wrong with dodgeball. Then up to the sanctuary for a quiz on different jerseys from different sports. After that we played a round of Amazon Women! Everybody loves this game. Matt Burkey died, and Eric Stump saved him! Then we went to our gross out game. Creme Egg! Each team had to eat 12 of them. Disgusting!
Service on Wednesday was awesome. We started with the High Energy Challenge Slam Dunk Contest! Every team chose 1 guy and 1 girl to dunk at 7.5 feet. Their were some great dunks and some “EHHH” dunks, but all together it was pretty sweet! Joe Fang then led worship. It was good to have him back!! We love Joe Fang! Pastor Jeff spoke for about fifteen minutes and at the end of service he had the different age groups split up, to pray for each other. It was a very powerful time, and definitely was a great experience!
This week at J-Jam we went outside and played a great game of Kickball. Then we played a game of Earthball volleyball. It was splendid! A lot of it was a battle between McFlurry Fury and Double Cheesey Beef Burrito. Then we went onto a game, where we froze a piece of a straw and a paper clip in a cup, and we had to melt the ice to get the things out of it. It was FREEZING! The devotion on Leadership was brought to us by Erica Eschbach and Chelsea Marshall. Ending J-Jam with the gross out game, we had to dip our hands into a fish tank and pull out gold fish and other objects in the bottom of the tank. And thats the J-Jam recap for the week. This week is Animal Day!
On Sunday, February 15, at 6:30 PM we will be in the Youth Center where our youth will be taking a pledge to live pure. Since January 4, they have been participating in our Live Different Sunday Morning Life Group focused on identity in Christ, image and relationships. Purity is an important decision they will make in their lives. Come and support our youth as they take a pledge to Live Different and LivePure.
So the first week of J-Jam spring season 2009, was a t0tal success! We divided up our teams, and started in on the action right away! We started off with some kill the cone! That is a J-Jam favorite. After that we went to some dodgeball, which is another J-Jam favorite. Eric Stump gave our team a pep talk, “WE WILL LIVE TOGETHER, AND WE WILL DIE TOGETHER!” Thats deep!! After two games of dodgeball we went up the sanctuary for bumper bellies. You stuff a couch cusion into a DoubleXL shirt, and then you put four of these people into a 10×10 foot box and let them sumo! AMAZING! Then we went to a marshmallow relay where kids had to pick up marshmallows with their feet and hop on one foot down to the other side, and drop them in a picther! Needless to say some people had sticky feet after this game. Then Eric Starner ate them! I am completely kidding! After the marshmallow relay, Pastor Jeff gave the devotion and asked a few questions to make sure the chicos and chicas were paying attention, which they were! Then to the final game, DRUMROLL PLEASE! “THE UNHAPPY MEAL!!” Cheeseburger, french fries, and water all mushed up in a cup for the team to drink! Absolutley disgusting. But it was a great day at J-Jam, and the kids really enjoyed it. Here are the points standings thus far.
So yesterday was a very fun J-Jam. Although we did not have the Gym for any dodgeball or kill the cone, it was still a great day.
We started with the pop the balloon game. Everyone ties a balloon to their ankle with string, and you have to run around and try to pop the balloons off of kids on other teams. Its a very high pace game. Then off to Chariot. One rider and two kids are horses, the rider has flags around his waist and the two horses have to run around and pull the flags off of other riders on other teams. The kids find this game very fun. After that… AMAZON WOMEN!!!!!!!!!! Aeriel Hammaker loves this game. lol. All the boys crowd together, link arms and legs while all the girls run around and try to pull boys out of the circle. Lots of soreness after that one. But then after the commissioner, co-commissioner, and Pastor Jeff talked it over, we decided to do one more round. So it was again another game of pulling on arms, pulling on legs and shirts for them to yank the boys out of the circle. Matt Burkey wants to thank Eric Stump for putting his butt in his face the whole first game, and I would like to thank Eric Stump for the sweet aroma of his amazing smelling foot that was in my face the whole time. Good going Stump! Kris McNaney then brought the word!!! He talked about giving and how it is important to give with a kind spirit and a cheerful heart. Then to our gross out game. It was some kind of vegetable juice, that tasted like watered down pea soup. It was disgusting, probably the worst gross out game this season. But that’s it for this week, so here are the scores.
1st Place: Tibiofibula 1,355,500
2nd Place: Jugular 1,261,500
3rd Place: Metacarpal 1,217,650
4th Place: Illiac 1,169,000
Next week is Pilgrim and Indian Day!!!
Trivia:
What country leads the world in mining and production of silver?
Well we started off with a J-Jam favorite, Octopus! It was a great game besides one of the girls getting owned in the face by a leader that shall remain nameless. Then to dodgeball which was fun, as always. We split the girls and guys and each team from the girls side got to pick one guy to join them. It was a great game even though all the guys won. Then we went to the youth center to play the pick up a paper bag with your mouth while standing on one foot and leaning down game. HAHA I didn’t know what to call it so that’s its name now. That was great, get em Isaiah Seilhammer!! Then we took a Disney quiz. Pretty fun. Then to our gross out game, mustard, banana, apple, and rice cake sandwiches. So Good!!!! NOT! But that was J-Jam this week. The standings are as follows…
So J-Jam this week was a BLAST!!!! The first game was Matt-ball named after our commissioner Matthew Burkey!! Teams suited up and one by one, runs were scored. It was a great game, a lot of people kicking the ball into the ceiling and believe it or not one person actually made it into the basketball hoop!!! It was pretty amazing. Buy anyway, then after Matt-ball we moved to half court for some DODGEBALL!!! It was a great game, and a great time. So we then head up to the sanctuary for a bible verse relay. It was really cool to see the kids interact with other kids, in order to get their bible verse put together first. Aeriel Hammaker then spoke to us about love. Why it is important to love on people, even if it is hard, because that is what we are called to do as Christians. The last game, Peanut Butter and Jelly Tacos, was also an amazing game. As you can see in the picture, Tarryn, had a lot to eat in our gross out game. It was really disgusting to see the kids eating tacos with peanut butter and jelly and then licking the plates clean! YUCK!!!
But anyway, that is a recap from last week and here are the updated scores.
1st place – Tibiofibula 948,000
2nd place – Jugular 874,500
3rd place – Iliac 860,000
4th place – Metacarpal 840,000
